Blog from Jonathan - July 29th

Jonathan posted a new blog:

Jonathan checking in! Tuesday morning here in LA. Heading off to rehearsal in a few minutes. Just wanted to say a quick thank you to everyone that was able to attend our event this past weekend in LA. It was a great pleasure to meet so many people from all around the country and hear your questions. It was also a pleasure to see your reactions to our new music! The new album is something we are really proud of and it will be our honor to share it with the world. It has been the best of times in rehearsal with the guys everyday. I wish you all could be flies on the wall. I forgot what a bunch of comedians they are. I couldn’t have a better bunch of guys to work with! The album cover artwork will be arriving today at the studio. Can't wait to see the final product!!!! See you all real soon! September 18th is approaching fast! All the best, Jonathan

Update, 3:10PM: Jonathan left another message:

Jonathan update… Ok, Los Angeles is officially a crazy place! I just went through my first earthquake. Makes me want to get out on tour all the more. Seems really strange to me that ten minutes after it ended life continued as normal for these people. I think I'll park my car on the street from now on and not in the underground garage. I never get to rehearsal on time, but believe me, I couldn’t wait to leave my apartment this morning.

New Kids on the Block spotted in Miami

According to the Miami Herald, the New Kids were at the Tides Hotel in Miami this weekend. Here is the article:

Hangin' Tough on the terrace at The Tides The recently reunited New Kids on the Block seemingly found all ''The Right Stuff'' this weekend at the Tides Hotel.

While the ''kids'' may not exactly look the same in bathing suits as they did in ''91, the original boy band soaked up the sun from one of the hotel's swanky poolside cabanas. The hotel's terrace provided another spot for the boys to, uh, ``Hang Tough'' and squeeze in some much-needed relaxation before their international tour kicks off in September.

On Friday, NKOTB singer Jordan Knight was seen working out at the original South Beach Crunch. He was sporting a white T-shirt and black shorts, doing some serious ab work.

Donnie Wahlberg Speaks out about Life Insurance

Here is an article from Investment News

New Kid reaches out
In September, actor and former New Kids on the Block frontman Donnie Wahlberg will add another title to his résumé: national spokesman for the Life Foundation's annual Life Insurance Awareness Month.

The Arlington, Va.-based Life and Health Insurance Foundation for Education is educating the public on the benefits of life insurance and stressing the importance of consulting a financial professional when buying a policy. September marks the fifth year that the foundation has reached out to Americans to show them why they should purchase life insurance.

Mr. Wahlberg, who will also tour with his reunited band this fall, will conduct interviews on national television and radio, as well as in print media.

He will be featured in a video message, calling for industry support of Life Insurance Awareness Month. That message will be distributed to carriers and producers nationwide.

Mr. Wahlberg will also speak at the Falls Church, Va.-based National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors' annual convention Sept. 8 in San Diego.

The star's endorsement of life insurance is based on a personal story. Mr. Wahlberg's sister, Debbie, died at 44 without life coverage, leaving behind a 16-year-old son.

Although the extended Wahlberg family cared for the young man, the event showed Mr. Wahlberg firsthand why planning for the unforeseen is so important. The purchase of life insurance was a "no-brainer" once the celebrity sat down with his financial adviser, Mr. Wahlberg said in a statement.

"My sister was taken away from us too soon. She was a young woman who had her whole life ahead of her, but like so many people, she didn't think about the 'what-ifs,'" Mr. Wahlberg said.
"If something were to happen to me, I want to know that my loved ones will be taken care of financially," he said.

Danny Blog - July 17th

Danny posted this blog today

Hi everyone,

We are back from Germany and it was amazing. Throughout this experience I never know what to expect. The German fans are more than ready for THE BLOCK just like everyone here and in Canada. The support was unbelievable and it was awesome. Everywhere we went people were there to support us. We are looking forward to the European tour next year.

I want to rundown our week for you so maybe you will get an idea of what it was like.
We arrived Monday July 7th to Germany. We took the day to recuperate from jet lag, see the movie set, and have a fitting for our crazy medieval outfits.

Tuesday we filmed, as ourselves in medieval times, with the amazing German director/actor Til Schweiger. It was a fun day aside from the black soot we all inhaled during the filming. After we finished we were blowing out black boogers. There were flames being blown thru the air throughout our performance. It was a pleasure working with Til and we look forward to the release of the movie in December.

Wednesday was the big international press conference. It was amazing to see over 200 European journalists in the room. I always feel like we are just those 5 guys from Boston and how did we end up here. It was a very humbling experience. The rest of the day was spent doing tons of European press and we didn’t finish until nighttime.

Thursday and Friday NKOTB was split into 2 groups so we could cover more ground. We went to Frankfurt, Munich, Cologne, Hamburg, Kiel, Hannover, Magdeburg and then all got back together in Berlin. We visited radio stations, TV stations, did print interviews and Internet outlets. It was great and felt really good to be so productive.

I need to personally thank Sven Kilthau-Lander, Jurgen Grebner, and the whole Universal Records staff for the amazing job they did in Germany. We are looking forward to all our future endeavors in Europe.
We are back in L.A. for tour rehearsals. September 18th is coming soon and we are so excited.

Love Danny

New Blog from Joey McIntyre

Joey posted a new blog at nkotb.com today

“Alle funf!!!!”
Means “all 5″ in German.
That’s all I can say in German so far.
We had a blast… a lot of work but having our fans show up
everywhere we go made it a lot easier.

The schnitzel was on point. And we couldn’t believe how tall
everyone was- men and women. Damn! I felt like Ryan Seacrest over there.

So its back to rehearsal and putting together the greatest show on earth
by the “5 hardest working kids in show business”.

Let’s get this!

Rumor: New Kids on the Block want to work with Madonna

This is from the same source that told us that the New Kids would be working with Michael Jackson (which Joey denied yesterday), but here's an article from The Mirror saying they want to work with Madonna:

New Kids On The Block want to work with Madonna
By 3am 11/07/2008

Not content with having Michael Jackson lined up for their big comeback, soon Madonna could be part of New Kids On The Block's return, too.

The band - who had hits in the late 80s with Hangin' Tough and You Got It (The Right Stuff) - are all set to work with Timbaland next week and hope the super producer will pull some strings to get the Queen of Pop on board for their album, out in September.

NKOTB's Joey McIntyre revealed: "It's so exciting. We loved what Timbaland did with Madonna's 4 Minutes and can't wait to see what he has in store for us."

Jordan Knight added: "I know he's putting in a good word for us to have Madonna on the album. It's looking good. Fingers crossed!"

With Jacko and Madge both 50 next month, perhaps "New Kids" should seriously consider a name change...

N-Joy Interview with Jordan, Joey and Jonathan

I heard some of the radio interviews didn't air when they were scheduled... I'm not sure what happened, but maybe they just recorded them at those times, and they'll air them later.

Anyway, here is one of the radio interviews from N-Joy in which they deny the rumor about working with Michael Jackson

Article from the Daily Star Says New Kids will be at O2 Arena in London

Here is an article from the Daily Star

KID'S STUFF: BOYS BACK FOR BLOCK BUSTER
10th July 2008

BOYBAND legends New Kids On The Block have unveiled plans for a full UK tour and comeback album.

I was one of a handful of journalists granted a private chat with the pop dons at their comeback press conference in the German city of Munich.

And I am pleased to report that Donnie Wahlberg, 38, Danny Wood, 39, Joey McIntyre, 35, Jordan, 37, and brother Jon Knight, 38, are sounding brilliant, musically.

And personality-wise they are as charming, funny and sweet as my childhood dreams led me to believe.

Donnie revealed that the reunion came about after he heard a demo of the song Click, Click, Click – now on the lads’ new album.

It prompted him to get in touch with his old bandmates about returning to the studio.

He said: “It’s not like we fell off the face of the earth.

“We just collectively decided to stop working together, so coming back is a very natural thing. We experienced something magic together.”

The lads are now gearing up to release their first single Summertime on September 1, with an album of entirely new material following a week later.

In addition, they will tour America this autumn before reaching the UK, including London’s 02 Arena, in January.

The single will be their first since 1994, but despite the time lapse the gang were adamant they wouldn’t change the “Kids” to “Men”.

Joey told me: “We’re kids at heart. What’s in a name?”

Collaborations with Ne-Yo, 26, and Pussycat Dolls have given their sound a modern twist, but they say they’re not trying to break the mould with their new tunes.

Jordan explained: “We don’t feel we have to do a ground-breaking piece of art for everybody to say: ‘Whoa, they’re deep.’

“We are a boyband, and we do have girl fans and we like showing off and having fun. If it’s not
broke...”

And they are not back on the block because of Take That.

Jon insisted: “I couldn’t tell you what song they sang, or what they look like.”

Manbands at dawn: can’t wait.

New Kids on the Block to record with Michael Jackson?

Will the New Kids on the Block to record a song with Michael Jackson? Well, according to this article from the Mirror, it may happen.

Update: 9:17AM - Joey denied this rumor on a German radio station this morning.

New Kids & the Jack
EXCLUSIVE Boyband veterans join King of Pop
By Sarah Tetteh 10/07/2008

Michael Jackson is set to make a comeback with golden oldie boyband New Kids On The Block.
The King of Pop had secret talks about the link-up with the band's stars at his home in Nevada last week.

New Kids singer Donny Wahlberg, 38, said: "It's very exciting. It's one big party and everyone wants to join us." The pop veterans announced the plan as they celebrated the launch of their first reunion tour in 20 years which starts in September.

New Kids were the original US boyband and sold 80 million records with hits including Hanging Tough and Right Stuff.

And they are just some of the artists collaborating with Jacko, 49, as he attempts to revive his career following his acquittal three years ago of child abuse charges.

The Bad singer was due to release his much anticipated album this year to coincide with his 50th birthday.

But a source said: "He has been in the studio for months. He wants to create an amazing album and won't release anything until he is totally satisfied.

"He's a musical genius and record bosses want to leave him to develop his magic. It will be down to him when it is released."

International Tour Plans and Song Titles From the Press Conference

New Kids on the Block will be in the UK in January 2009, and the rest of Europe after that.

Besides, "Click Click Click" here are the titles of some of their new songs that they played at the press conference this morning: "Two in The Morning" "Single" and "Dirty Dancing" (I think this song will also be featured in the Til Schweiger movie).

So, here is the unofficial track list (so far) of the upcoming album:

"Click Click Click"
"Summertime"
"You Got My Heart"
"Full Service" (feat. New Edition)
"Looking Like Danger"
"Big Boy/Big Girl" (featuring Lady GaGa)
"Sexify My Love"
"Two in The Morning"
"Single"
"Dirty Dancing"
"Close to you" (Not sure this is the exact title)
"I'll Stay" (Not sure this is the exact title)

New Kids On The block introduce first songs

Munich - on the 9th of July, the New Kids On The Block in their first European press conference officially announced their comeback. They premiered four songs from the new album which will be out on September 5th in Interscope/Universal.

The four new titles, "Two in The Morning", "click click click", "Single" and "Dirty Dancing" are in the Pop-R'n'B to establish. Among others, the quintet has worked with Ne Yo, Pussycat Dolls, Akon and the US Boyband New Edition. The album will be released on Interscope, "we believe it is our best album yet (?)," said New kid Joey McIntyre.

The first Single, "Summertime", will be released August 29th. It will be played on the radio starting July 10th. For the first time the representatives present in Munich were able to see the accompanying video. The title "Dirty Dancing" will be featured in the new Til-Schweiger-film "1 1/2 knight - in search of the carrying away Herzelinde". In the film, the New Kids On The Block will guest star and will perform the song in a medieval club. The actor and director Til Schweiger, was also at the press conference, said the song "Dirty Dancing" is a "next Smash hit" with an "incredible Hook".

The five group members Danny Wood, Donnie Wahlberg, Joey McIntyre and both brothers Jordan and Jonathan Knight, famous during the eighties and nineties with hits such as "Step By Step" on the international charts. The New Kids On The Block were a prototype of the Boyband and paved the way for acts such as Take That, the Backstreet Boys and *Nsync. The New Kids On The block sold more than 80 million albums worldwide and were one of the most successful pop groups.

Meanwhile the five "New kids are kids", although some have kids of their own and are in their mid to late 30's. McIntyre: "We are still kids, somehow." On the question, what the poor husbands should know, because its women are again in the NKOTB fever, answers Wahlberg: It "with to the concert (?)."

The group wants to address mostly fans in the age between 23 and 38 years. Numerous fans that were too young to go to concerts, could make up this now. From mid-Jan 2009 the group will be on tour in Great Britain, Germany and the remainder of Europe is to follow. As of the end of September the Boygroup will be in the USA and Canada for their first concert tour.

Radio stations across the country are giving away trips to Los Angeles for the CD preview and a performance by the New Kids on the Block, which will take place on July 26th. As far as I know, it'll be open to contest winners only.

Here are the names for a couple more songwriters that have worked with the New Kids on the Block: Claude Kelly (also wrote for Akon and Whitney Houston) and Kara DioGuardi (also wrote for Jonas Brothers and Clique Girlz)

Danny mentioned in Life and Style Magazine

Here is a short article on Danny from MSNBC/Life & Style Magazine:

NKOTB alum’s second career

Have you been wondering what New Kids on the Block’s Danny Wood has been up to since the band’s split in 1994? This New Kid tried his hand at hawking jets.

Wood works as the VP of sales for Halcyon Jets and intends to go back to the business after the New Kids comeback tour.

“I’m enjoying it,” the singer told Life & Style Magazine.

Some clients even recognized the New Kid from his music days, “It’s a nice ice-breaker,” Danny told the mag.

New blog from Jonathan Knight (July 3)

Jonathan posted a new blog at nkotb.com

Jonathan’s July 4 blog!
Hello to you all! Standing in line at the Long Beach Airport getting ready to jump on a plane to Boston. Going home for the 4th of July to spend time with my family, see my dog, ride the horses, and play in the dirt on my tractor!! Haven’t been home for a while so looking forward to seeing everyone. My youngest nieces and nephews have grown so much in the past few months. Can’t wait to see them walking and talking. Had a one word conversation with my niece the other day and she actually said hi! It brought a tear to my eye. I wish I could bring them back to Los Angeles. Heading out to Germany on Saturday. We have an extremely busy schedule while we are there. Not looking forward to the jet lag! Our first show is approaching fast. I’m still waiting to be awakened from this awesome dream. Somebody please pinch me so I know this is really happening! Can you believe this?!! See you soon.
Jonathan

Daily Star talks to Lady Gaga about New Kids album

The Daily Star has a brief interview with Lady GaGa about the new NKOTB album.

NEW Kids On The Block have roped in one of The Pussycat Dolls’ songwriters to sex up their comeback album.

Talking to me at Isle Of MTV in Malta, 22-year-old tunestress Lady GaGa said of her NKOTB collaboration: “I wrote a song on the album and I’m a featured singer on a song called Big Boy, Big Girl.

“The album will surprise people. It’s completely futuristic – new, now and contemporary.

“There is nothing jaded or old about it. It’s them doing 2008.”

The New York lass added: “Working with them is the most incredible experience.

“They are just an amazing talent. It is going to be a good year for them – I have faith that they are really going to come back with a bang.”

The Wild Morning Show

Update: links no longer available.

The Wild Morning Show on Wild 95.5 (West Palm Beach) mentions the New Kids on their show quite a bit. Here are the links to the audio files:

Producer Heather is obsessed with anything boy band related. Can anyone beat her in NKOTB trivia?

The Wild Morning Show tries to debut the new New Kids song "Summertime" but don't have the song

The Wild Morning Show debates whether or not to play "Summertime" and debuts the song

The Wild Morning Show debuts the new New Kids song "Summertime" and Jason make a bet on whether the song will be successful

The Wild Morning Show has an update on the new NKOTB song...will Jason end up with that tattoo after all?

The New Kids are performing on the Today Show and it doesn't look good for Jason (Click here to view the tattoo options they mention)

It's time to find out - will Jason take the double or nothing offer on his New Kids on the Block bet?

Jason made a bet that if the New Kids are #1 on the Billboard Chart, then he'll get a full back NKOTB tattoo. So, as a joke, the Wild Morning Show pretends that Jordan calls in to tell them that the New Kids are #1

Jason's reacts when he believes he has to go through with getting the New Kids tattoo, but then finds out that it was all a joke

It's time to check back in with the New Kids...will Jason have to get a tattoo?

Radio Interview with Donnie Wahlberg from My 99.9 Radio

Donnie did an interview with My 99.9 Radio (Colorado Springs, CO) in May, but I just found it today.

Update: Interview has been deleted, does anyone have it saved?

New Kids on the Block & New Edition Record Together

According to People.com New Kids on the Block & New Edition recorded a song together. Here is the article:

New Kids on the Block & New Edition Record Together
By Jessica Herndon
Just when you thought the New Kids on the Block reunion couldn't get any sweeter, word comes that the guys are recording a song with another favorite boy band: New Edition.

"Donnie Wahlberg had this idea for a few months, since New Kids had the idea of getting back together really," says producer Nadir "RedOne" Khawat, who worked on the song. "Donnie's been looking for that one track for all of them and I think we found it."

Last week, just days after New Edition took home the Golden Note Award at the 21st annual ASCAP Rhythm & Soul awards in Beverly Hills, the group (minus Bobby Brown) went into an L.A. studio to record with the New Kids. The ensemble track, titled "Full Service," will appear on NKOTB's not-yet-titled upcoming album.

The song was written by Wahlberg, Khawat, and New York disco diva Lady GaGa. "It sounds very universal and melodic and has both sides in it: The R&B, which is New Edition and the pop side for New Kids," says Khawat. "It's very uplifting. Right away you start feeling good and every part feels natural to each one of the guys."

So what was it like being with all of them in the studio? "It went really smoothly," says Khawat, adding that they munched on sushi in the studio and the guys prayed together before recording. "There were no egos or attitudes. It felt like they'd been friends forever."

In a recent chat with PEOPLE, New Edition frontman Tresvant addressed the rumors that the two bands have been feuding for years. "The thing people were going back and forth with was we'd been doing what we were doing for the longest [but] we couldn't get cartoons and things that the white guys were getting. It was like, 'wow,' " he said. "But the guys themselves, we have mad love."

New Kids in Milan on July 9th? and More...

There is a rumor out there that NKOTB will be in Milan, Italy on July 9 for a concert and the announcement of the international tour dates. I can't find any other details on this, but I hear they'll be going to Germany next week for that movie, so it's possible they'll make a stop in Milan.

According to Eurweb "Producer Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins .... is in the studio working on new music for Brandy, Beyonce, Fantasia, Mario, New Kids On The Block (reunion album), the Black Eyed Peas and others."
