Jordan's Metro Mix Interview

Here is an interview with Jordan (see videos below) and an article from MetroMix.com (Nashville):

Ladies, if you’re a fan of New Kids on the Block, I’ve got some seriously exciting news.

Not only can you have the chance to meet Jordan Knight, who’s in town working on an upcoming solo project (slated for spring release), you could, just possibly, be the one lucky fan or band chosen to perform a duet with him and possibly even open for him on his solo tour. No joke, folks!

Jordan has been traveling all over the U.S. in search of amazing singers, putting the word out about the impromptu auditions via his Twitter, @JordanKnight, and now he is making a Nashville stop.

“I don’t want people to be afraid of singing, and I don’t want them to think that I am going to clown them, like on American Idol,” Jordan said. “(Idol) brings people in who can’t sing, and they do it for entertainment’s sake, and they make them look stupid. But even if you can’t sing, just sing anyhow from your heart and have fun! That’s what it’s about! I wont make you look like a fool. Let’s all be fools and have fun.”

Auditions will be 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct 28, at Hollywood Disco (1907 Division Street) and are open to female singers and their bands, ages 18 and over.

New blog from Donnie

Donnie posted a new blog at nkotb.com:

Hey All…

I know most of our communication lately is thru twitter…

However I also know that not everybody uses twitter and, quite frankly, sometimes the 140 character space that twitter provides just isn’t enough space to express ones self adequately.

That said…

I just wanted to take a moment and say a few things…

First and foremost I want to say thank you to all NKOTB fans! To the BH’s, the Soldiers, the “crews” and everyone!

The last two years have been so unreal and so unexpected that I sometimes wake up thinking it was all my imagination.

Yet it is real.

We are here.

And I must say…

The love and support you all have shown to each and every member of this group- both collectively and individually- is astounding.

Wether it was Jordans foot surgery or his various twitter campaigns, Danny’s work with the Komen Foundation, Jon’s singing “step 5″ or his amazing tweets, Joe’s “Let’s Get This” campaign or my own insanity at The Waffle House at 4 a.m….

You all have shown, each one us, the utmost love and support!

It never ceases to amaze me.

It is often said…

The New Kids are “great to their fans”.

And we often say in response “that is because we have the GREATEST fans”.

This has never been more true than in the downtime since The Full Service Tour ended.

(That is… IF you call it down time).

Since then… Each member has stayed in touch with many of you, through twitter etc, while at the same time taking on various individual projects.

Be it movies, solo music projects, charitable work, twitter contests, real estate projects or what have you…

Most members of The Block have been very busy and many of you all have been just as busy- standing right along side us- showing that fierce love and support that you always do.

Through it all… I want you to remember, as well as it is important that we too remember, that we are a unit.

The Block and its fans- We are a team.

Supporting each other, enjoying each other and enjoying what each other has to offer, is part of being teammates.

Myself personally…

I never really thought I would make music as a “solo” artist. Hell I’ve been off shooting a movie… And to be honest I don’t even particularly like that title attatched to my name- “solo artist”?!?!?! Strange for me.

But I must admit… I am thankful that you all allow me the freedom to act on my creative whims…

I write a song for fun…?

I send it out to you all.

You react to it…?

We all have FUN!

That is, was, and will always be my goal in the music business… FUN.

Having FUN, seeing you have fun and doing it in a way that allows us to all have fun together.

Doing everything I can to give back to you… What you give to me.

The success?

That is really just the cherry on top.

The amazing thing is-

There is so much more fun to be had.

Other members of The Block are creating and building and engaging you in their own ways…

It is going to be fun to see what they have in store for us!

And most important…

It is going to be fun to see what the world has in store and what WE have in store for the world in 2010 and 2011.

We have NOT stopped working, as a group, towards the future.

Working on ways to surprise you, entertain you, empower you and to give you as much joy as you can possibly take in!

“In the worst of times… We’ve had the best of times”.

Forgive me for quoting myself…

But that fact will never be lost on me.

We have been riding out some very tough times in this world together.

Army wives, mothers, sisters, daughters, husbands, soldiers, 9 to 5ers, single moms, brothers, widows….

You name it… We are all here together.

So blessed.

So fortunate to have something that bonds us…

That reminds us…

That no matter how tough things get…

It is always a blessing to feel free.

Music and love have that power.

Music and love are the core of who we are.

And who we will remain.

Thanks for the time.

As Always Your Man,

Donnie W.

Joe reads to kids

Joe posted a new blog at http://letsgetthis.org/:

Here is just a taste of what your generosity has done. I was lucky enough to read to these amazingly well behaved, (thankfully) interested, cute kids at St. Michael’s in Englewood, CA. 95% of the kids in this school can not afford books and when they found out they were going home with 3 brand new books, they were beyond thrilled.

So first I read them a book- a tad nerve racking at first- I don’t know how teachers do it, but then I got the hang of it. And, again, the kids were so polite. We had a bunch of laughs. I read to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades.

When these kids got there books, it was as if you set them loose in Toys R Us. They loved the books and you could tell they would be cherishing them for a long time to come. And all because you guys to a little time to bring a new book to the summer tour.

Keep up the book drives and get the books to the places that need them most. They are out there. Big ups to the girls who put on the Rock the Block party with the Fat Boys! And Big ups to The Fat Boys for bringing it to another level!!! Legends of the game helping out the cause.

New album by Danny out on November 3!

Danny posted this on Twitter:

Danny interview from MSN

Here is a Danny interview from MSN:

Breast cancer fight has New Kid on the Block
Singer-songwriter Danny Wood sets up fund in memory of his mother

By Giacinta Pace
NBC News
updated 11:20 a.m. CT, Thurs., Oct . 1, 2009

Cause Celeb highlights a celebrity’s work on behalf of a specific cause. This week, we speak with singer-songwriter Danny Wood of New Kids On The Block. He and other members of the pop group have done charity work in the past, including for the Make a Wish Foundation and fundraising telethons for cerebral palsy research. Their newest charitable project is raising funds to help fight breast cancer.

Wood lost his mother, Elizabeth "Betty" Wood, to breast cancer in September 1999. In her memory, Wood and his fellow bandmates sold special-edition tank tops during their tour, “On The Block.” They raised more than $300,000 for Susan G. Komen For The Cure, an organization whose mission is to cure breast cancer. Wood also set up The Betty Wood Breast Cancer Foundation's a “Remember Betty” campaign to raise money for breast cancer research and to make sure the legacy of his mother lives on.

Question: What inspired you to get involved with breast cancer research and awareness?

Wood: My mother passed away from it in 1999 so I learned a lot from that. Watching her struggle with it made it a very personal thing and it took me years to accept it. Now through doing this and the group getting back together, it kind of gave me more of a reason why she was taken, because now her name is going to live on forever. It feels really really good. It’s great because my daughters are 10 and 11 years old, and now they’re going to have very vivid memories of her even though they were babies when she passed away.

Q: What was your mother’s name?

Wood: Elizabeth Wood — but everyone called her Betty.

Q: What have you done to advocate for this cause?

Wood: I partnered up with the Komen Foundation and since the beginning of our tour last September, we’ve been selling tank tops. In the middle of May, we presented them with a check for over $200,000 and we’ve raised over another $100,000 since then.

Q: Who came up with the idea to sell these tank tops to benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation?

Wood: Well, I went to the guys in the very beginning when we were rehearsing for the tour and said I have an idea, I want to see what you guys think. Everyone was completely for it because, I mean, they were all very close to her too.

Q: And what made you choose Susan G. Komen as the beneficiary for these donations?

Wood: My mother had talked about the foundation and she had talked about doing some of the [fundraising] walks and stuff but she just wasn’t physically able to do it. I had that memory of her talking about it. Also, I had known other people who have done the walks. I did some research on the company and 87 cents of every dollar goes to research, so it just makes sense to go with them.

Q: What has been the most rewarding experience for you working with the organization?

Wood: Honestly, it keeps my mother’s name alive. And to see my daughters and my sons participate — they’re going do a couple walks with me. You know, more for them then for myself but my whole family — my sisters and my brother and my dad. When I had my dad tell me he’s very proud of me with everything I’ve done to keep her name alive — you know those kind of things mean the most to me.

Q: How has your career impacted the way you feel about charity work in general?

Wood: Even when we were young kids, the first time around, we were always doing charity work. We did the Say No To Drugs Campaign, we always did the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the cerebral palsy telethons. So, it was built into us through the way we were raised to always give back. But this was a much bigger thing. It started out as a small idea and now its turned into a bunch of things that I’m going to do in the future, so it’s more important for me actually to do this than the stuff I do with the group.
