Blue Bloods Season 2 Premieres September 23

CBS has announced the premiere dates for the fall season. Blue Bloods starring Donnie Wahlberg will be back on Friday nights starting September 23rd.

Listen to "Stingy" by Jordan Knight and Donnie Wahlberg

Jordan and Donnie debuted "Stingy" on the Ryan Seacrest show this morning. The song was originally on Jordan's "Unfinished" album, now re-recorded with Donnie Wahlberg. Listen to the song below:

Update: the original video on this post has since been deleted, but here’s the “Stingy” video!

Jordan Knight interview with Access Altanta

Here is an interview with Jordan from Access Atlanta:

Jordan Knight has some ‘Unfinished’ business

It’s about two hours before New Kids on the Block will electrify a swelling throng of fans at Philips Arena with their new buddies in the Backstreet Boys and what is Jordan Knight doing?

Eating a piece of chocolate cake.

The slender, handsome Knight is wearing jeans and a blue and white checkered shirt over a white T – his normal attire before transforming into a black-clad heartthrob who, at 41, possesses impressive abs that he’ll occasionally flash to the receptive crowd.

In the bowels of Philips Arena, Danny Wood and Donnie Wahlberg walk down a hallway, Wahlberg’s sturdy boxer dog Lumpy pulling him along.

BSB’s Brian Littrell, a Georgia resident with family at tonight’s show, also breezes by, sporting long shorts and a grin.

But Knight’s pre-show ritual in Atlanta involves nothing exciting, just dinner in a backstage catering room peppered with roadies and a few banquet tables of food.

We head toward a quieter table in the back, where Knight is eager to chat about his solo album, “Unfinished,” released at the end of May, as well as the current boy band mega-tour selling out arenas nationwide.

In a half-hour interview, Knight, his Boston accent and dimples still prominent, talks candidly about missing his kids (they don’t travel with the show because, “This is more like sailor life, like pirates. It’s just crazy.”), how he stays in shape and his inspiration for the melodic, hook-filled “Unfinished.”

On touring with BSB

“It’s been so great. When you see another group come up and they’re kinda like you, when you’re younger there might be, like a rivalry. But they don’t have a name for nothin’. They’re really good. I’m a big fan.”

On staying in shape

“We do a two-hour show, so that’s a workout. We have time underneath the stage to check email, we have a screen down there where we might watch sports. But we work out during the show. We have resistance bands and are doing pushups. The show is a serious workout because we’re working out while it’s going on so we’re freshly pumped.”

On the timing of “Unfinished”

“I didn’t plan the release because of the visibility [of this tour], but that’s amazing. I finished it not too long ago, and I thought, this is perfect timing. But I’m selling CDs at the venue, I get to do interviews about it on the road, so that’s cool. We have a day off tomorrow [June 23], but I’m filming a video with Donnie for ‘Stingy’ [at the W Hotel in midtown Atlanta]. It was the last song I recorded for the album and the day I sang it, I had to hand it in for mastering. When I was singing it I thought, this would be a great song for Donnie to be on, but there wasn’t time for him to record it. He heard it and was like, ‘Dude! This would have been perfect for me!’ so we’re remixing it and he’s going to be featured on it in the video and we’ll release it online.”

On whether “Unfinished” will be released overseas

“We have to figure out a time since we’ll try to release it in conjunction with being on the [NKOTBSB] tour. This tour will go overseas, probably not until this time next year. I’ll probably go over myself to release the CD and come back with the group(s). New Kids will take a break, but I probably won’t. I’ll roll right into performances in select cities like here in Atlanta, Toronto, Chicago, New York, Dallas.”

His thoughts on the finished product

“The album stands up to any album out there if you ask me, any hip Top 40 album out there. The songs are great. I think it’s probably even a better album than most newer artists because I took a lot of time to make sure each song was really, really great. I worked on it about a year on and off.

I did it for the fans so I did it with great intentions. I envisioned fans listening to it in the car, in the gym, in the kitchen, The beautiful thing about us is we have a fan base that, as long as we don’t sell them short, they’ll come back. The moment you take them for granted and sell them short, they see through that. We don’t want that.”

On a future NKOTB album

“There hasn’t been any talk of an album, but I’m sure we will [do one].”

On being back with Donnie, Danny, brother Jonathan and Joey McIntyre

“We’re like brothers, man, now more so than ever we get along better. We’re older, wiser, more humble — and being humble is the best way to get along with other people.

Sometimes we didn’t keep our heads about us, but the thing that really did keep us together was the fact that there was five us and we didn’t have to go through it alone. I think it happens to a lot of big stars that they go through it alone and don’t have anybody to talk to and they kinda lose perspective. If we’re having a bad day we can just talk about it. I think that’s what kept us together.”

On the group’s rabid fan base

“It’s really amazing and sometimes, a lot of times, I’m like, what is it? We must have something. I don’t know what the hell it is. It seems we’re a ragtag bunch of guys, but when we come together, we make it happen. It’s the power of the team. We all have strengths and weakness, but when we work together it is magic.”

On what he’s currently listening to

“I’m not listening to anyone these days! I don’t have time. I’ve got no time to listen to my iPod. If I’m listening to music it’s either what I’m working on or it’s in the background on the radio of if I’m driving. I do listen to the radio a lot, so it’s not like I’m out of touch. Actually, it’s probably better since before I would listen to obscure stuff and now it’s all radio so I know exactly what’s going on with the sounds on radio.”

Knight said he and his live band – whom he’ll take on tour – will perform on George Lopez’s late night talk show, “Lopez Tonight,” July 18 on TBS.

“Unfinished” is available now at retail on online outlets. Listen to first single “Let’s Go Higher” here: http://www.jordanknight.com/

Joey to join a boy band reality show?

According to NY Mag, Joey will be a part of the new reality TV series. Here is the article:

Lance Bass: reality producer extraordinaire. When we chatted with him at last night's Persol Magnificent Obsessions exhibition and party, he told us that he just sold six reality shows, including one to VH1. "It's a really great music show, starring all your favorite boy bands. It's going to be really fun," Bass says. "I got a member from Backstreet Boys, A.J. McLean. A member from *NSYNC, Joey Fatone. A member from New Kids on the Block, Joe McIntyre. And a member from New Edition, Bobby Brown. They're all going to form a boy band, each, from the most talented guys in America that I've scouted, and then they'll go head-to-head in a competition to see who the best band is, so it's bragging rights for the guy in the group, for sure." Well, almost: Bass admits that Brown hasn't officially signed on yet. "I think Bobby will do it," Bass says. "I think he'd love it."

@JordansIndianBH: How about a remix of 'Stingy' with Donnie doing the rap n a vid as well
Jordan: It's coming! Just recorded it!

@KnightCamSTL: So, Stingy will have a video?
Jordan: Yeah, Donnie and I doing it together coming up.

@songbird_sally: heard your asking jordan questions? can you ask him if a solo tour is in the works after nkotbsb? thx, from salisha MTL
Jordan: I probably do some dates after NKOTBSB shows, definitely. Not sure 100% where as of yet.

@LittleAngie_79: is Jordan still there? If so can u ask him if he already decided what the 2nd single should be! I vote One More Night! : )
Jordan: That's looking like the 3rd one. Stingy is next.

@hot4JK: Question for Jordan: do you ever get tired of all that touring??
Jordan: Never! Every night I look out in the crowd and say 'wow.' We all love going on the road and playing and meeting you!

@kellidaisy: @jordanknight also I think you should ask him if he runs:)
Jordan: I do, and thank you again for your story!

@JeneJ19: Will Jordan Knight be selling autographed Unfinished CDs at every show?
Jordan: Yes, the CDs are all signed.

Another Boston Globe Article

Here is another article from the Boston Globe about NKOTBSB at Fenway and a charity appearance Donnie and Danny did:

They came. They saw. They slid down a rain-soaked catwalk at Fenway Park like it was a Slip ’n’ Slide. And before and after their big Saturday-night concert, NKOTBSB (also known as the Boston-bred New Kids on the Block and the Backstreet Boys) partied all over the city.

NKOTB guys Donnie Wahlberg and Danny Wood started their evening at Hot Stove, Cool Music, the semiannual event that raises money for the Foundation to Be Named Later, a charity run by Peter Gammons, Theo Epstein, and Theo’s brother Paul. The shindig — which was moved from Fenway’s Right Field Roof Deck to the sheltered Steiner Deck because of the rain — was catered by Tremont 647 chef Andy Husbands, dante chef Dante deMagistris, and the MET Bar’s Todd Winer, and raised $125,000 for the foundation’s children’s causes. Jayme Parker of NESN and Dan Hausle of Channel 7 ran the night’s auction. Mix 104.1’s Kennedy Elsey emceed. Guests included Hot Stove coordinator and local music manager Michael Creamer, “Hell’s Kitchen’’ finalist Jason Santos, the foundation’s executive director Allyce Najimy, Roger Greene of Ipswitch Inc. (the night’s big sponsor), and Mayor Tom Menino.

During the party, Theo told us that even though the New Kids aren’t like the other musicians who have played Fenway Park (rockers such as Dave Matthews, Aerosmith, and Bruce Springsteen), they’ve earned their night on the ballpark stage. “They deserve this. They’re a local institution. They’re big Red Sox fans. They’ve been coming here for years,’’ he said. Theo promised he’d try to do the “New Kids dance’’ during the night, but said his wife is better at it. Donnie, who has perfected the New Kids moves for more than 25 years, took the Hot Stove mike during the party to tell young people in the crowd that no matter where they’re from, “If you work hard for it, you can do it.’’ He said he felt lucky to be sharing the night with “inner city kids and people from Boston.’’

Later on, Donnie’s brother Mark Wahlberg, who’s in town to film the movie “Ted,’’ surprised the crowd by introducing NKOTBSB and joking to the sold-out ballpark that if it weren’t for his brother Donnie, who helped him start a music and acting career, he’d probably be incarcerated right now.

The Backstreet Boys continued the celebration long after their Fenway show was over. The foursome hosted an afterparty at Royale where they sang, DJ’d, mingled with fans, and sipped on Perrier-Jouet Fleur de Champagne. New Kid Donnie accompanied them to the club and introduced them at the event.

On Friday, NKOTBSB prepared for their performance with a meal at Cafeteria on Newbury Street. Donnie also mingled at nightclub Cure.

Speaking of Mark Wahlberg and his Seth MacFarlane-directed comedy “Ted,’’ we hear it’ll be filming at the Somerville Theatre tomorrow.

Video of Mark Wahlberg and NKOTB introduction at Fenway show

Here is a YouTube clip taken by antisocialxgrl of the mayor of Boston declaring June 11 NKOTBSB day in Boston, Mark Wahlberg coming on stage and giving a speech, and the members NKOTB and BSB being introduced by the Red Sox announcer:

Boston Herald review of NKOTBSB at Fenway

Here is the Boston Herald's review of NKOTB and the Backstreet Boys at Fenway Park:
The weather didn’t cooperate, but it didn’t really matter. New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys — collectively, NKOTBSB — made the most of the downpour at a sold-out Fenway Park on Saturday night in what amounted to an explosive show with a historic feel.

Mayor Thomas Menino and Mark “Marky Mark” Wahlberg, younger brother of NKOTB member Donnie Wahlberg, added to the significance of the night by introducing the two groups, the latter sending the predominantly female crowd into shrieks.

During the 21⁄2-hour show, both groups embraced the deluge by splashing through puddles onstage, engaging in liberal shirt removal and using the stage as a Slip-n-Slide. True, the New Kids are now middle-aged adults, and none of the Backstreet members has been Boys for more than a decade, but that was irrelevant. Both groups seemed to be having as much fun as their devoted fans — if not more.

The New Kids took the first solo slot, running through “Summertime” with synchronized choreography and abs exposure from Joey McIntyre. Both groups alternated onstage but obviously worked in coordination, their fashion choices revolving around sexy suits and fedoras or Boston-themed sports gear, from Bruins jerseys during their joint single “Don’t Turn Out the Lights” to Celtics jerseys during the encore medley of “Hangin’ Tough” and “Everybody” on the Green Monster.

The fact that both groups have a deep stash of hits ranging from angst-ridden ballads to uptempo pop/r & b certainly didn’t hurt the mood.

The Backstreet Boys worked dance numbers such as “The Call,” “Backstreet’s Back” and “Larger Than Life” as well as ballads including “Incomplete,” “Shape Of My Heart,” and the serenade segement “I’ll Never Break Your Heart,” showcasing excellent harmony work led by A.J. McLean and Nick Carter.

NKOTB brought unforgettable hits “You Got It (The Right Stuff),” “Step By Step” and “Please Don’t Go Girl,” with McIntyre on bended knee in the middle of the stage extension, at one point appearing close to tears.

Wahlberg brought a sense of hip-hop swagger to the show, while lead singer Jordan Knight’s brilliant falsetto, particularly during “I’ll Be Loving You Forever” proves that had he been born in another era, he could have had a successful run with The Stylistics.

An appearance by Naughty By Nature for “Hip Hop Hooray” sent the show into overdrive, as all of Fenway Park danced in the rain to one of the most memorable hip-hop songs of the ‘90s. It was no surprise when a fan yelled out “I feel like I’m like 13 again!” The entire show mixed nostalgia with a sense of new life for both groups.

“American Idol” champ Jordin Sparks delivered a strong opening set, closing out with “Battlefield” and the Beyonce-like girl power anthem “I Am Woman.” And even she wore an NKOTB T-shirt.

NKOTB & BSB at Fenway - Boston Globe Review

Here is the Boston Globe's review of the New Kids on the Block and
Backstreet Boys at Fenway Park:

It seems impossible, but the unrequited teen ache of “Please Don’t Go Girl’’ or “Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely,’’ can still melt hearts.

At least the hearts of the lady-dominated crowd that defiantly stood in the pouring rain at Fenway Park last night to sing along with NKOTBSB (the lengthy string of letters merges the bands’ names while mercifully dropping the words “Kids’’ and “Boys’’ in the process). The power of these songs — which were once dismissed as Top 40 drivel — have aged as well as the men who sing them.

The fact that Mayor Thomas M. Menino came on stage to introduce the bands (flubbing the name) and Mark Wahlberg spoke before the start of the show underscores just how important this music was to two generations of girls, as well as Boston’s civic pride.

As the rain increased, these women didn’t budge from the venue, and the two bands rewarded that loyalty by playfully skipping and slipping across a soaked stage while delivering a set that was filled with their past glories.

Fans flooded Fenway Park with boisterous ear-blistering screams to herald the return of their Tiger Beat crushes. Those women might be a bit older now, but their lungs showed no signs of aging.

Not that the two bands did anything to dissuade the noisy adulation.

Most of the former heartthrobs are in their thirties, and in some cases early forties, but the show possessed an eerie aura of time travel. Through a gauzy lens — or perhaps it was the romance of the rain — it could easily have been 1990 (NKOTB) or 2000 (BSB).

The tight choreography still rode a fine line between manly swagger and Bob Fosse musical, and the soaring vocals — particularly those of Joey McIntyre — were as well-preserved as his abdominal muscles.

Poses were struck and biceps were flexed while fireworks erupted during NKOTB’s “You Got It (The Right Stuff).’’ It was a thrilling, guilty pleasure when the two bands overlapped for a combined encore of “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back) and “Hangin’ Tough.’’

Frenetic energy blasted from both the stands and the stage. The cold and wet night seemed to harden both bands’ resolve to have fun.

The production, which stretched over two hours, was nearly as slick as it was during their halcyon days. The New Kids held the hometown advantage. They also hold the honor of outselling the Backstreet Boys, and at one time they even voiced their own Saturday morning cartoon series.

One of the night’s most poignant moments came during the opening number when the two bands performed a mash-up of “Single’’/’’The One’’ while incorporating a slice of Coldplay’s “Vida La Vida.’’ The latter song rung particularly true as the bands rightfully sang “I used to rule the world.’’

NKOTBSB Article from North Jersey

Here is an article from NorthJersey.com:

In 2008, the sight of the reunited New Kids on the Block instantly snapped a generation of grown women back into shrieking teenagers.

The old T-shirts and buttons came out of storage. There was a new album, NKOTB baby clothes, sold-out concerts. (This reporter sang along at one. OK, two.) This year, 3,000 fans even sailed to the Bahamas on the band's third annual cruise.

And the comeback keeps going, now coupled with another big-name 1990s boy band: the Backstreet Boys. NKOTBSB, as they are now known, hits the Izod Center this weekend.

How long will this nostalgia last?

"I think it's more than nostalgia at this point," says NKOTB's Danny Wood. "I think the fans are aware of what kind of night they're going to get, whether it be on the cruise or at a concert. It's a girls' night out. … Especially on this tour, when you're getting a double dose of boy bands and you're getting all these hit records."

Still, Wood admits to being surprised at his group's staying power. "We're not the norm in the music business. We're the exceptions, especially to be able to do it a second and third time around, after being apart for 15 years."

Backstreet Boys' Howie Dorough said he wasn't so sure their music would hold up in this century. But then he saw the crowds' reactions. "They were screaming like the first day they ever heard those songs," he says.

NKOTBSB features the groups singing separately and together, in what Dorough calls "a Billy Joel-Elton John dueling pianos kind of thing." NKOTB's "Right Stuff" and Backstreet Boys' "Larger than Life" was one natural pairing.

Wood scoffed when asked about the process of meshing his band's songs with Backstreet's. "I mean, it's all pop music," he said. "It's not that hard."

And while they've experimented with remixes of their songs, they quickly found "the original way the songs were performed is what the fans want to hear," Dorough says. "They just want to be taken back to that time. And I get it. I think if I was to go to a Prince concert or an Eagles concert, I would want to hear the original … that's what I remember."

While the old hits are still the big moneymakers, several NKOTBSB-ers are working on their own solo projects, including Dorough, his bandmate Nick Carter and NKOTB's Jordan Knight.

NKOTB's Donnie Wahlberg has carved out a serious acting career (most recently on CBS' "Blue Bloods"). Wood describes himself as a stay-at-home dad with four children ages 12 to 19 – all of whom will be at the Izod Center concert.

Dorough, who spends many summers with his wife's Monmouth Beach-based family, says he's looking forward to the Jersey pizza and subs.

And maybe later, continuing the boy band tradition.

"My son, I can see he's got the musical skills in him," Dorough said in a phone interview while his 2-year-old cried in the background. "Brian [Littrell]'s son is 8 years old and really developing a lot of his crafts ... and so me and Brian joke around about getting [former bandmate] Kevin [Richardson's] son in the group and creating the next generation of the Backstreet Boys."

Poughkeepsie Journal articles about Jordan

The Poughkeepsie Journal has been featuring some articles about Jordan and his appearance at KFest.

KFEST concert in Fishkill: Jordan Knight joins rappers Ludacris, Shaggy, more

More than two decades after he hit it big with the New Kids On The Block, Jordan Knight is still maintaining a hectic schedule.

Saturday night, he and the New Kids will perform in Boston as part of their sold-out, 53-night North American summer tour with the Backstreet Boys; the groups perform under the NKOTBSB combined moniker. The next night, the tour pulls into Philadelphia .

In between, though, Knight will make his way to Fishkill as one of the headliners of KFEST, the annual concert festival put on by local radio station WSPK (104.7 FM).

"It's pretty fast-paced, but I'm more than happy to do it," Knight, who turned 41 last month, told the Poughkeepsie Journal recently during a break in rehearsals for the NKOTBSB tour. "I really view it as, I am part of a greater whole. Even when I do solo gigs, it's not about me — it's about the New Kids, it's about the fans, it's really about doing good music. That's what people love. They love good music."

Megan Denaut said that's exactly what fans who flock to Dutchess Stadium for Sunday's KFEST can expect from the all-day show that will feature more than a dozen acts, including rappers Ludacris and Shaggy, boy band Big Time Rush, and solo artists Mike Posner and Cody Simpson.

"It's definitely an exciting day. It's a mix of artists for everyone. It's a nice blend," said Denaut, WSPK's promotions director. "There are some big names, names you wouldn't usually see in the Hudson Valley."

The inaugural KFEST took place at the Thunder Ridge ski resort in Patterson, Putnam County, in 1998, with acts such as Color Me Badd and Inner Circle headlining. Since then, stars such as LL Cool J and Rihanna, as well as groups such as Train and Good Charlotte, have graced the KFEST stage. Akon famously threw a young fan from the stage in 2007, resulting in the rapper's subsequent guilty plea to second-degree harassment charges.

Knight isn't the only New Kid with an appearance at KFEST. Fellow NKOTB member Joey McIntyre sang at the 1999 event.

Having released his "Unfinished" solo CD last week, Knight said his KFEST appearance will feature a varied lineup of songs.

Jordan Knight likes to “soak it all in” on stage
Posted on June 2, 2011 by seanmcmann

Many people will remember Friday, April 29, 2011 as the day Prince William married Kate Middleton. Me? I’ll remember it as the day I got to interview Jordan Knight, lead singer of my favorite group of all-time, New Kids On The Block!

In between rehearsals for the NKOTBSB North American tour and putting the finishing touches on his new CD, “Unfinished,” Jordan gave me almost 20 minutes of his time — talking to me about the new CD, the summer tour, his appearance at this weekend’s KFest concert in Fishkill and the possibility of a new New Kids CD, among other topics, and he even took time to answer a few questions posed by fans. I set up the interview because I was writing a preview story of KFest for the Poughkeepsie Journal. Well, that story’s all written and set to run in print and on our website this Friday, in preparation of Sunday’s concert at Dutchess Stadium. (I’ll also have a post here with a direct link to the story on Friday.) But … Jordan gave me so much great information when we talked, I had to let all the Jordan and New Kids fans know what he had to say. Admittedly, it’s not every day I get to interview a New Kid — though I’m sure you know I’ve met the guys a few times, right? — and knowing how many fans Jordan and the group have (not to mention how loyal they are), I figured I’d share my conversation with JK with the world. So, without any further ado, here’s the rest of my interview with Jordan…

Many of us had noticed that since the New Kids got back together in 2008, 14 years after disbanding, the guys seem to appreciate their fans even more this time around. So I asked Jordan if they enjoyed their their fans and the popularity more this time around.

“I think so,” Jordan told me. “Before, it was like this big, huge whirlwind. We probably had bigger egos when we were younger; I know I did. I think we’re a little more humble now. We really appreciate it all the more. When I’m on stage, I soak it all in. We know this go-around isn’t going to last forever, so I just want to soak it all in and have a lot of fun.”Since Jordan and I were talking while the New Kids and Backstreet Boys were still rehearsing in LA for their tour which kicked off last week — “We’re each sending spies to see what the other group is doing,” he said —I asked JK what it was like preparing for the tour, combining two popular groups on one stage.

“Putting the NKOTBSB show together, me and (fellow New Kid) Joe (McIntyre) say this feels like a cakewalk,” said Jordan, who’s been on tour three times with the New Kids since 2008 before this summer. “We get to share the stage with the Backstreet Boys. They’ll do a set, then we’ll do a set. It seems very easy. When we started, it was really nerve-wracking. We were in rehearsals for three months. We didn’t know that to expect — How would we do on stage? How would the crowd react? — and we were really, really nervous. (But) we’ve gotten so much adulation from everyone, we get to relax a little bit.” With that in mind, I then asked Jordan what fans, including me, can expect when we catch the NKOTBSB tour this summer. “They can expect a lot of male energy, a lot of really good songs,” Jordan said. “We’re going to do all our hits. People can stand up, sing along. There will be a lot of choreography.”

So there you go: Somehow, I stretched a 17-minute interview with Jordan Knight into one story for print and three “Sean’s Space” blog entries (so far) over just over a month. Again, check back here on Friday for a preview of my Poughkeepsie Journal story on Jordan’s local appearance, as well as a direct link to my story.

The good folks at K104 have set me up to talk to Jordan again at KFest to tell me about his experience at the show on Sunday, so it’s likely I’ll have a little more JK for New Kids fans in this “Space” soon!
