NKOTB's Jonathan Knight Checks Out 300-year-old Home in New HGTV Premiere: 'So Cool'

The boy bander turned HGTV star has a cameo in the premiere of Houses with History, which airs Wednesday, Sept. 29

New Kids on the Block's Jonathan Knight simply can't stay away from historic houses!

The former teen heartthrob and star of HGTV's Farmhouse Fixer — the first season of which premiered in March and followed Knight, 52, as he overhauled an 18th-century home in New Hampshire — is set to make an appearance on a new HGTV series premiering this week, Houses with History.

PEOPLE got an exclusive first look at the new show, which stars history buff Mike Lemieux, carpenter Rich Soares and designer Jen Macdonald as they team up to help save historic properties in Massachusetts. In Wednesday's premiere, Knight, who lives in Massachusetts, makes a cameo to check out their first major renovation: a single-family, Cape Cod-style home constructed in 1735.

"That is an old house! So cool," Knight says in the clip, above, walking up to the finished property with his Farmhouse Fixer co-star, designer Kristina Crestin. "Old house lovers are a special breed," he says, with Crestin joking, "Oh, they're nuts!"

"I'd rather renovate an old house any day over building a new house," adds Knight, who has been renovating historic homes in and around his home state of Massachusetts since the New Kids first disbanded in 1994. (They have since reunited and put out new music). "There's an aura to old houses that is just so special."

The group of five then go in to see how Lemieux, Soares and Macdonald brought the property to life for a local family, who will now call it home.

Knight, who shot to fame in the late '80s with his New Kids on the Block bandmates — younger brother Jordan, Joey McIntyre, Donnie Wahlberg and Danny Wood — chatted with PEOPLE about his passion for restoring old homes earlier this year, ahead of the premiere of Farmhouse Fixer.

"I love seeing an old farmhouse brought back to life," he said, sharing that he got involved with home renovation after he left the band in 1994. "I came home to my 20-acre farm and woke up a couple days later, like, 'What am I going to do with the rest of my life?'" he recalls. "I was 25, 26 years old and I felt like my career was over."

He started a home-flipping business soon after, and worked on properties up until the band got back together in 2008. Now, along with making music and touring, Knight is still working on home projects.

Over the past 27 years, he has renovated more than 200 houses around New England, including a compound of 18th– and 19th-century farmhouses for his mom and the home he shares with his fiancรฉ, personal trainer Harley Rodriguez, 48, whom he started dating in 2008.

"I'm so lucky to have two [passions] . . . I don't even call them jobs, because they're dreams," Knight said.

HGTV confirmed to PEOPLE that more Farmhouse Fixer is on the horizon, but a premiere date has not yet been announced.

Houses with History premieres Wednesday, Sept. 29 at 9 pm ET/PT on HGTV, and begins streaming the same day on discovery+.

NKOTB News for September 28

It appears that even though NKOTB is scheduled to tape Kelly Clarkson Show tomorrow, we will have to wait until at least next week watch it on TV since they released this week’s schedule and they were not listed as a guest.

Donnie will be on The Talk on Thursday! The new season of Blue Bloods starts on Friday, so I expect he is doing promotion for that!

In the mean time here’s a clip from Jenny McCarthy of Donnie singing an old school hip hop song called “Get Tough” by CD III.

It's Tuesday and Danny released a new episode of The Wood Works! Here's the latest "Carrot Cake Cookies":

ET Canada wrote a nice review of one of Joey and Debbie's Las Vegas shows. Be sure to watch the second video in the article he calls home and then sings part of the song "Supergirl" for a sick fan.

Since there isn’t much else to report today, here’s a few interviews about the New Kids that didn’t previously make “the news” but have good NKOTB stories and are fun to watch/listen to!

Danny Wood: A Conversation with Victor Popovic
Danny is sitting down with New Kids on the Block Tour Manager Victor Popovic to join us! Watch as Danny talks to Victor about his journey to a healthy lifestyle, life on the road, his career with the band, and the bond they've grown to share. Danny then takes on Vic's Healthy Italian Wedding Soup- a traditional soup recipe featuring Italian-style turkey meatballs, a hearty broth, and distinct, aromatic seasonings.

Rattail: Rattail Interviews Scott Saia
We had the pleasure of speaking with the amazing Scott Saia! He has worked as a bodyguard for the Wahlberg's and NKOTB.

Dope Nostalgia Podcast: Episode about Jordan Knight
My special guest DJ AK (Amanda) from No More Games Radio is here to talk about Jordan's first solo album in 1999. We also discuss what happened to NKOTB fans in 1994, John Mayer paying Jordan an artistic compliment, Which JK release you should steer clear of, his tenor vs. his falsetto, and her many amazing experiences with the man, including the time she was forced to choose between him and Bon Jovi. I also share the super rare demo "Truck and Fish".

Inside Jonathan and Jordan Knight's childhood home

The former Knight family house is currently on the market and even though I'm sure it looks very different from when they lived there as kids I thought it was neat to see the inside of a building that has been a part of New Kids history. The Boston Globe posted a small photo gallery in 2008.

Here's what it looks like today. Sadly it suffered some damage last year due to a burst pipe. I think it would a neat project for Jonathan to fix up and feature on his TV show!

Introducing 10 Melville Avenue, a 23 room, 6000+ sq/ft Victorian residence sited on an enormous 35, 000 sq/ft lot in the coveted Melville Park section of Dorchester. Originally built in 1880 by George Meacham, designer of the Boston Public Garden, the home has tall ceilings, spacious rooms and much of its original Victorian detail intact. The house is set back from the street and features a porte-cochere as well as a carriage house. The property was most recently used for religious + community services, and stands ready for its next chapter. Potential uses include single family, multi-family or institutional uses. While lovingly maintained, the interior of the home suffered damage from a frozen pipe last year, and some rooms have been gutted to the studs. The carriage house is also in need of extensive repair. Your opportunity to own an amazing property with boundless potential on a huge lot. See agent for further details.

Announcement coming soon/Kelly Clarkson TV appearance

Donnie has been dropping more hints that a tour will be announced soon!

Then Donnie recently wished KayGee from Naughty by Nature a happy birthday and said “See you in the studio in 2021 and all over the map in 2022!”

Rumor on Twitter is there will be an announcement about a new “Mixtape” tour in about 2 weeks! It says there will be new acts! But as Donnie has hinted above, Naughty by Nature will likely be on tour again with them in 2022. Who else do you think will be joining them?

And probably the biggest hint that big news will be announced is NKOTB will be making a major television appearance soon!  They will be taping Kelly Clarkson’s show on 9/29 in California! You can request tickets to go to the show here. Usually the show is taped in advance so it will air at a later date so I'll let you know what date it'll air.
